Dan Caputo has had some good results racing at Pacific Raceways on Tuesday nights. Currently he is ranked 4th in the series based on the June 29th results posted at BuDuracing.com (might be third after the most recent results are posted!). Dan has won a race, sprinted to 2nd in two and has consistently finished in the top 10 in every other one. Great job Dan!

Breakaway Gathering: The Breakaway party last weekend was pretty awesome. Met a lot of ambitious riders on the team! This season has been an exciting one and I am sure it will continue to be. It was great to hear everyones’ experiences riding around in the kit; all neon-ed up! If you weren’t there, hope you can make it the next time around. Pizza, drinks, and racing stories, you can’t beat that. It was also nice to put some faces to the team; these are the people representing Breakaway out there! This weekend is the Mutual of Enumclaw race. Hope to see all of you there! Keep on racing!—Jenn

I attended a race at Volunteer Park this weekend with Michael Armfield (co-founder of Breakaway Racing) to support the team. The new jerseys look awesome amongst the opposing teams’ performance gear. Electric blue, Neon Green, and White, the colors compliment very well and create a statement all on their own. However, you haven’t seen the brilliance of color mixed with speed until you’ve seen one of these Men’s Category 3, 4 and 5 fly by. Wearing the “BR” wrapped in a halo of neon color, Breakaway turned it up. With Noah Mery, Nate Pitts, Dan Caputo, and Michael Armfield, this weekend may not have been the best result-wise, but the energy was high and the weather—-a cyclist’s ultimate ideal. See you at the next race! Go Breakaway!—Jenn

So far this season, we’ve had 4th place finishes in Mason Lake #1, #2 and Tour de Dung #1 in the Cat 3 and Cat 5 categories! We’re right off the podium and it’s only a matter of time…
The Tour de Dung was an exciting race for me because 1) it was fast, 2) it was windy. I was able to snag another 4th place finish by zipping through some people which made me really happy. I raced Mason #2 the day after. I don’t think I ate enough after racing Dung #1. I finished 12th in the field sprint which is fine considering the circumstances. I’m looking forward to racing in some great springtime weather this weekend.

This weekend, the PNW race scene roared to a start with the 1st of 3 Mason Lake Road Races - aka: The Mason Lake World Championships. It was day to get used to riding in the peleton again and rekindle those racing sensations. There were many jitters and bumps and I thought - at least until the last 250m of my race - that everyone was going to make it through unscathed. However, there was a terrible crash about 300m-250m to go in my cat3 field.
The guy who crashed fell into me and almost knocked me over, however, I was able to stay upright and recover from the dreadful wobble of doom. I was able to catch back up to the last group of 10 in the final 100m and I finished 4th by the time I crossed the line. Not a bad day. Almost crashing had my adrenaline going though - the sound of it was terrifying. Seriously, there’s nothing more frightening than hearing people scream as they hit the pavement at 35mph wearing only a thin layer of spandex. I’ve been there. I really hate to see others get hurt and I was very dismayed after the 4th ambulance drove by to the crash scene after the race. I sincerely hope that everyone is able to recover 100% from the crash.
I owe a congrats to Breakaway Racing member Daniel C. who raced the cat5 men’s race and finished top 20 today. 84 starters! Unbelievably cool.
Also, I owe another congrats to my friend Jordan Louie who races for Husky Cycling/Hagens Berman. He one the Cat 4 race and got his Cat 3 upgrade. Awesome.
